AbCellera Biologics is a Vancouver-based clinical-stage biotechnology company that integrates biology, computation, and engineering to discover and develop antibody-based medicines. Founded in 2012 as a spinout of the University of British Columbia by Carl Hansen and co-founders, the company built its platform over a decade of partnerships with pharmaceutical and biotech companies, completing over 100 therapeutic antibody discovery programs. AbCellera is best known for its role in developing bamlanivimab, one of the first COVID-19 antibody treatments, in collaboration with Eli Lilly. In 2023, the company shifted strategy from a partnership model to advancing its own pipeline of internal and co-development programs focused on endocrine and metabolic conditions, oncology, and inflammation and autoimmunity. AbCellera is publicly traded on Nasdaq (ABCL) and employs approximately 600 people across Vancouver and other locations.
