2U is a global online education platform company that powers higher education online through its edX platform, connecting over 100 million learners to programs offered by 250+ university and corporate partners. Founded in 2009, the company partners with leading universities to develop and deliver online degree programs, boot camps, executive education, and open courses. 2U provides the technology platform, learning experience design, marketing, student support, and operational scale while partners lead on academics. The company acquired edX from MIT and Harvard in 2021 for $800 million. In July 2024, 2U filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, eliminating over $450 million of debt, and subsequently emerged as a private company continuing to operate its education platform.
